What is NORDIS ?

The operational NORCCIS II is accredited to handle information classified NATO SECRET in the System High Mode of Operation. A new version of the system with NORDIS-S as the Core Services platform and NORCCIS II as the CCIS application suite on this platform is being accredited to handle NATO SECRET and national SECRET in the partitioned mode of operation. The two partitions will operate in the system high mode of operation for NATO SECRET and national SECRET, respectively. A CC EAL4 firewall mediates all access between the two partitions.

The physically separate NORDIS-S/NORCCIS II JWID system will handle information classified JWID COALITION SECRET 6-Eyes and JWID COALITION SECRET 10-Eyes in the two partitions.

The service has a two way external connections with national services on a SECRET level, a two way external connection with national and NATO services/systems at a NATO SECRET level, and a one way external connection from national systems or services with lower classification.

The JWID 2003 configuration includes key infrastructure concepts and components from the new version of NORCCIS II, to be fielded in 2003 under the name NORwegian Defence Information Services Secret, NORDIS-S. NORDIS-S introduces information processing in two security domains, NATO Secret and National Secret, with mediated information exchange between. The information mediation is controlled by accredited security components in an architecture developed in cooperation with the national security authority. The accreditation is in progress for NORDIS-S as a National Partitioned Secret System High CCIS.

Norway proposes to demonstrate key capabilities from the NORDIS-S to perform information processing in the 6 and 10 Eyes JWID 2003 Domains and to exchange information between them. The accreditation by the Norwegian National Security Authority (NoNSA) for the Norwegian JWID 2003 configuration is based on the ongoing accreditation efforts of NORDIS-S and previous accreditation of components employed in the Norwegian JWID 2003 configuration.
